My mother in-law may poison my pup!?

My mother in-law constantly sorts her medication on the living-room coffee table! I have asked her repeatedly to do this somewhere else, anywhere else ( her room) so my puppy can't get to it easily. She ignores us, then loses some of her pills. My wife and I find most of these lost pills, but I'm worried that one day, my pup will ingest some type of medication and poison her. Would she be financially responsible for this if my pup get's sick?
