What is the difference and similarities between scanning electron microscope to transmisstion electron micro.?

A scanning electron microscope is used to observe surface details. The specimen is not cut into thin sections. The transmission electron microscope is used to study details of the interior of an object, but the object must be cut into very thin sections. Both use energetic electrons instead of photons.
