Vertical split vs horizontal on cod black ops ps3?

Okay so my boyfriend and i both play cod black ops online and we like to play co-op alot but cant stand that the screen splits horizontally rather than vertically... is there any way to change this option... i tried to google it but i dont really have the patience... thanks mucho...
