What is this test? the dr. says it's like a pap test but with a microscope. it's to check out abnormal cells?

so i had a pap smear done about 2 weeks ago and my "lady doctor" called me back today with the results. my test had come back with news of some abnormal cells. she said that she has seen a lot of this before (low grade..something something?) but i need to go see someone else and get another test done. my doctor said the test was like a pap but with a microscope. they need the microscope to get a closer look at the cells and stuff. so what is this test?? how is it done? will it hurt at all? will they give me a shot or put me on an IV or something during it? any info on this is really appreciated. i'm a young girl so naturally something like this im really not prepared for is a real shock..
