PG-13 movies and kids under 13?

Any thoughts on PG-13 movies for kids in the age 10 range? Do you allow your kids to watch PG 13 movies after watching them yourself or researching content? My son is in that weird in between age where PG movies seem like baby movies and although he doesn't fully understand everything in PG 13 movies he prefers them and as long as there is no nudity, only mild and infrequent profanity, or gory violence I tend to give it the green light. I have an ex mother in law who is trying to make me feel like the worst mother in the world for letting him watch anything above a PG rating. I'm not looking for a "you are right" or "you are wrong" answer....just curious on how you handle this tricky area with kids that aren't babies but not quite young adults yet.
